Nay Pyi Taw February 14

Assistance and encouragement of friend countries is of importance in reform processes of Myanmar. Cooperation of Thailand was invaluable for Myanmar in undertaking reform processes in 2011 and in the term of elected government. Although everybody needs interest, any cooperation would bring success based on fair consideration for both sides, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at a meeting with Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata who had completed his tour of duty at the Bayintnaung Parlour, here, at 9.30 am yesterday.

Also present at the call were Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo and Lt-Gen Soe Htut of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army). The Thai ambassador was accompanied by Second Secretary Mr. Jatuchatra Chommai and military attachés (Army, Navy and Air) of the Royal Thai Armed Forces.

At the meeting, the Senior General said he took pride of the Thai ambassador for its effort for remarkable development of Myanmar-Thai friendly relations and cooperation during about five-year term of assignment in Myanmar. During the period, Myanmar initiated its way of multi-party democracy facing many difficulties and overcoming a lot of challenges. In the second term of the government, the country is on the way of system with stability to some extent. The better relationship between Myanmar and Thai armed forces after 2011 has been contributing a great deal towards friendly ties and cooperation between the two countries.

Then, the Thai ambassador said that in about five-year term of assignment, he made strenuous efforts for promotion of relations and cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand and between the peoples. He expressed his recognition over the duty being discharged by the Tatmadaw in its important role for successfully carrying out reform processes and development tasks of the nation. He will continuously join the development tasks including peace-making process of Myanmar in his bid. He said that arrangements will be made for promotion of cooperation between the two armed forces, cooperation in security affairs, exchange of information, and combating human trafficking, drug and transnational crimes.

Afterwards, the Senior General explained that with regard to the role of the Tatmadaw, every Tatmadaw has responsibility for defending the State and the people. At present, the Tatmadaw, in its tasks, firmly accepts a concept that the Tatmadaw is an organization to defend the State in line with the democratic processes, not one of holding the power. The Tatmadaw cooperates with the elected governments in order to achieve success in political stability of the nation as well as ending the armed conflicts.

In holding discussions on Rakhine State issue, the Senior General said that everybody needs to know genuine situation of Rakhine State. Tasks on ensuring peace and stability, and rule of law are being carried out in line with the law sincerely, without willing to cause loss to anyone. Myanmar does not neglect the work procedures of the United Nations and is carrying out  the suitable tasks under the law of the nation. Although the Buddhists are the majority of the nation, the government allows other faiths independently. It should not make the religion as a stepping stone to the politics. So, the region is under control not to cause such situation. The guest ambassador expressed     his firm belief that the Rakhine State issue can be solved on the correct ways by building trust, adding he will disseminate correct situations and events in Rakhine State to all.
