A ceremony to hand over locomotives, passenger coaches and wagons from the People’s Liberation Army of China to Myanmar Tatmadaw took place at No 1 Platform of Nay Pyi Taw Railway Station at 8.30 am today, attended by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing,Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe,Union Minister for Defence Lt-Gen Sein Win, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Ye Aung, Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Khin Aung Myint, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E. Mr. Hong Liang, Military Attaché Senior Colonel Xiong Shaowei, Managing Director U Thurein Win of Myanma Railways and officials.
First, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Hong Liang explained matters related to handing over of locomotives, passenger coaches and wagons. Military Attaché Senior Colonel Xiong Shaowei handed over documents related to the locomotives,passenger coaches and wagons to Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Nyo Saw who spoke words of thanks.
The Quartermaster-General presented commemorative gifts to the Senior General and the Chinese Ambassador who also gave the commemorative gift to the Senior General.
The Senior General, the Union Ministers, senior military officers and the Chinese Ambassador sprinkled scented water on the locomotives.
Then, the Senior General,senior military officers, the Chinese Ambassador, the Chinese Military Attaché and the managing director of Myanma Railways rode the passenger train together with officers, other ranks and families from Nay Pyi Taw Railway Station to Tatkon Railway Station. At Tatkon Railway Station, the Senior General, senior military officers,the Chinese Ambassador and the Chinese Military Attaché posed for documentary photo.
The People’s Liberation Army of China handed over brand new locomotives and passenger coaches—two 2,000 HP Dalian brand locomotives, 10 68-seat Sifang brand passenger coaches and 10 32-ton-capacity Meishan brand covered wagons to the Myanmar Tatmadaw.
Thanks to the handover of locomotives,passenger coaches and wagons although the Tatmadaw hired locomotives and passenger coaches from Myanma Railways in the past, MR will give more number of trains to the passengers for their transportation. The Tatmadaw, on its part, will serve the interest of the people and contribute towards ensuring stability of commodity prices at local markets and smooth flow of commodities. At a time when natural disasters fall any regions,the Tatmadaw will cooperate with Myanma Railways in carrying out effective rescue and resettlement in time. In addition, the Tatmadaw will perform public welfare tasks with the effective use of trains.
