No 2 friendship bridge between Myanmar and Thailand completed by 80 per cent

No 2 Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge has been completed by 80 per cent, and it will be completed in 2017, said sources from the bridge construction project.

A coordination meeting on future tasks of the bridge took place in Mae Sot of Thailand on 2 December 2016. The bridge links Yepu village of Ward 5 in Myawady of Myanmar and Wasakin village of Ward 7 in Mae Sot of Thailand.

On 30 August 2015, Vice President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Nyan Tun and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak drove stakes for construction of the friendship bridge in Wasakin village of Mae Sot.

The No 2 Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge is under construction in order to further strengthen friendly ties and trade between the two nations. Both countries have been linking each other through No.1 friendship bridge.

Upon completion, the No 2 bridge will contribute much towards development of border trade process between the two countries and create job opportunities around the regions. Moreover, the friendship bridges  will be tools for creation of linkages of trade among Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam while promoting trade process of Mekong region.

The No 2 Myanmar- Thai Friendship Bridge is 21.40 kilometres long, being built with 3,900 million baht.
