Yangon November 25
Myanmar Birds and Nature Conservation Association will take effective actions to prevent hunting of migratory birds in the country after the number of birds from northern hemisphere that migrate to Myanmar has declined over the past few years because of hunting.
The association will take actions against hunting as of December, said Dr Thein Aung, chairman of the association. Moorhen, swan, Brahminy ducks and so on migrate to Myanmar as well as Vietnam. “Hunters catch migratory birds with the use of pesticides. We will hold talk to raise awareness about it, and will issue notice that hunting them is punishable under the law. We hope these will help protect migratory birds,” he said.
Migratory birds usually migrate to shallow areas in the country including Moe Yun Gyi Sanctuary in Bago, Inle Lake Sanctuary in Shan State and Paleik Lake in Mandalay.
