Germany has offered to buy about 3 tons of green tea produced by Myanmar, said Ko Kyaw Thiha from Myanmar Tea Producers Association-MTPA.

So, Myanmar will begin shipping tea to Germany in coming November, according to the offer.

Tea Producers Association from Pindaya will act as the main distributor for exporting dried tea to Germany at a price of Ks-15,000 per viss. Currently, the price for the first-class tea is from Ks- 5,500 to Ks-6,000 per viss in the local wholesale market.

“Exporting native green tea to Germany will bring better prospect for the country’s tea industry. This plan is a chance to promote the export of made-in-Myanmar products to the international consumers,” Ko Kyaw Thiha added.

At present, there are a number of green tea factories in Myanmar which are planning to boost their export of the dried leaves.

Myanmar Tea Producers Association is supporting farmers in production and packaging for the development of tea industry in the country.
