Villager abducted by armed group in Maungtaw


The IEDs seized by security forces in the area clearance operation.

Acting on a phone tip that claimed an armed group had abducted a villager, security forces conducted an investigation Tuesday night and found out that foreman Herby Roman from Thawunchaung (North) Village in Muangtaw Township was kidnapped by a 17-member armed group.

It was later discovered that the armed group led by Mawlawi Zubaing fired shots and abducted Herby Roman at his home in Thawunchaung Ywathit Village.

Security forces found a bullet shell casing in the kitchen of the abductee and conducting area clearance operations in the eastern portion of Thawunchaung Village.

Security forces also seized two 90-foot long, 4.5-foot wide pieces of cloth commonly used to make uniforms hidden in a thatch plantation near Leikai Village in the township on Monday.

Security forces also seized two activated improvised land mines in bags along with automobile pistons used in making land mines while conducting area clearance operations in the hills near Mayintaung and Hmawtaung.

Four IEDs and ten car pistons found in Maungtaw

Security forces discovered and disarmed four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a pack of medicines and a 3K 70 AHC battery in Maungtaw Township in the morning of 13 December. While conducting an area clearance operation between Mayintaung and Myawtaung, they unearthed the four activated IEDs made of car pistons and one 3K 70 AHC battery and a pack of medicines.

Similarly, security forces unearthed two activated IEDs made of car pistons, 13 rolls of bandages and ten car pistons that are commonly used for making IEDs near Kyet Yoe Pyin village in Maungtaw Township.

Four IEDs discovered in Maungtaw

Security forces discovered and disarmed four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a battery in Maungtaw Township yesterday.

While conducting an area clearance operation between Mayintaung and Myawtaung, they unearthed the IEDs made of car pistons and one 3K 70 AHC battery and a pack of medicine buried about 500 meters east of Mayintaung.

Govt troops discover body of MNDAA member, seizes arms in Mongko

The government troops found the body of a Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) member and 20 bullets for an M-21 weapon and one grenade near the fence of the Mongko outpost around 9:45am yesterday.

Troops also discovered an improvised explosive device at about 10:40 am planted by armed groups about 1,500 metres southwest of Kilarpa Village, Mongko, and disarmed the bomb.

Also discovered near a sugarcane plantation during an area clearance operation were two cartridges for an M-22 gun with 90 bullets, two mortar rounds, 11 detonators and one handphone.

Improvised bombs found in Kutkai


Improvised Explosive Devices seized by the government troops.

Security forces defused nine improvised bombs in a conduit near Nangpachi Village in Kutkai yesterday, according to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.

Acting on tips, security forces demined the conduit under the union highway near Nangpachi Village and discovered 9 improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The IEDs were made of iron containers, 6-inch in height and 4-inch in diameter and they were found together with one 14.8 volt battery, nine detonators and one circuit-board for remote control. The security force defused all IEDs.

Improvised bomb found on Shan State highway defused

Government troops found an improvised bomb on Lashio- Theinni Union Highway yesterday and were able to disable the device, according to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.

The bomb was found near mile-post 196/7 at about 1:30 pm while troops were conducting area clearance operations in Sanlaung Village in Theinni Township in northern Shan State.

Government troops clear five explosive devices

TatmaDaw troops managed to clear one locally made, remote- controlled improvised explosive device (IED), four land mines and various accessories — 6 electronic detonators, an 8-inch long wire and 5 cartridges consisting of 5 dry batteries each — in an area clearance operation near the Samar feeder road in Waimaw Township, Kachin State at about 2 pm on Monday.

Defence officials said the bombs were planted by an armed group of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). Tatmataw troops will continue to conduct area clearance operations, officials said.

Accessories Used In Making Remote-Controlled IEDs Seized In Tarshwehtan Gate In Laukkai

Security forces stopped a motorcycle at the Tarshwehtan Gate in Lauk Kai township, northern Shan State in the afternoon of December 4 and discovered accessories used in making remote- controlled IEDs. Combined forces of Tatmatawmen and Myanmar Police Forces seized a dry battery and accessories used in making remote-controlled IEDs inside the tool box of the motorcycle driven by U Li Kaung Ann to Laukkai from Nantkaw village.

Mine Clearance Team Finds 6 IEDs Planted By Armed Groups

A Tatmataw special mine clearance team found 6 IEDs planted by armed groups in a culvert under the bridge near milestone 214 on Pyihtaungsu Highway between Hsenwi and Kutkai, northern Shan State yesterday afternoon, according to the Office of Commander- in-Chief of the Defence Services.

The government troops are clearing the area nearby, it is learnt.
