We are working with the conviction that there must be eternal trust between Myanmar and India and eternal peace and stability at the common border. There has been close cooperation between the leaders of the two countries and the two armed forces. Our heart goes out to the victims who were innocent people of the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at his courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India, at the Prime Minister's Residence at 12.50 pm local standard time today. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing is on a goodwill tour of India.

Also present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Lt-Gen Soe Htut of theOffice of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Myanmar Ambassador to India U Maung Wai, senior military officers and Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) Brig-Gen Thein Zaw. The Indian Prime Minister was accompanied by National Security Adviser Mr. Ajit Kumar Doval, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (Army, Navy and Air) of the Indian Armed Forces Admiral Sunil Lanba, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Mr. VIKRAM MISRI and officials.

First, the Senior General discussed his visit to the states and industries of India, study of military affairs of India, and meetings with leaders of the Indian Armed Forces during his fifth visit to the country and gave suggestion on the promotion of bilateral trade on common interest. The Prime Minister said there must be cooperation in anti-terrorism as terrorism comes in various forms. Bilateral coordination will be made in crushing the armed insurgents at Myanmar-India border. India will provide military aid. Bilateral discussion then centred on border security.

After the meeting, the Senior General and the Prime Minister exchanged emblems and souvenirs. Afterwards, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing held talks with Mr. Arun Jaitley, Indian Minister of Defence and of Finance at his office.

At the meeting, the Minister said the visit of the Senior General will further cement existing military relations and cooperation between the two countries. India will continue to fully cooperate in Myanmar’s security. The Senior General said his visit will further enhance cooperation between the ministries of defence of the two countries in addition to bilateral military relations and regional security.

The basic thing is the peace and stability of the common border. The two armed forces will cooperate in driving out the armed insurgents at the border. Then they discussed promotion of security and defence cooperation between the two armed forces, participation in the UN peacekeeping forces in connection with the enhancement of the maritime security and training affairs.
After the meeting, the Senior General and the Minister exchanged souvenirs.

Later at the Conference Hall of the South Block, the Senior General and party heard report on the federal system of India presented by Dr. SUBHASH C. Kashyap, Secretary General of Lok Sabba Parliament of India (Retd). The Senior General asked further information about state-wise constitutional affairs, the sharing of the administrative power and other matters.
