Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Tatmadaw goodwill delegation visit Eastern Naval Command Headquarters of India

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who is in India for a goodwill visit toured Eastern Naval Command Headquarters in Visakhapatnam at 11.30 am local standard time yesterday. The Senior General was accompanied by Lt-Gen Soe Htut of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), senior military officers and Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) Brig-Gen Thein Zaw.

First, the Senior General and party were welcomed by Commander of the Naval Command Vice Admiral HCS Bisht and officials. At the meeting held at the office of the commander of the Naval Command,the Senior General said Eastern Naval Command is important for India. Because of its proximity to Myanmar there should be constant bilateral relations. According to the Indian history, Buddhism spread to East and Southeast Asia from Visakhapatnam region. So it can be called the base region of Myanmar-India religious relations. In the east of Visakhapatnam lies the beautiful Ngapali Beach and Thandwe of Myanmar.Vice Admiral HCS Bisht expressed pleasure and honour in welcoming the Senior General and delegation, saying, Myanmar and India have historical, religious and cultural similarities. He then expressed belief in the further strengthening of relations between the two countries and their Armed Forces and Navies.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Vice Admiral HCS Bisht exchanged emblems. The Senior General signed the visitors’ book. At the meeting hall, Command Plans Officer Captain RAJNEESH SHARMA explained history, structure, deployment and operations and functions of the war ships of the naval command. Then, the Senior General said the Indian Ocean is extremely large and the lifeblood of maritime trade. Myanmar’s Tatmadaw (Navy) itself will cooperate in security issues, natural disaster rescue and prevention and humanitarian issues.

Vice Admiral Bisht said the Indian Ocean has accessibility to 60 percent of global oil,50 percent of global commodity flows and 70 percent of India’s all commodity flows.The security issue of the waters of the Indian Ocean cannot be addressed by India alone and the cooperation of all its neighbouring countries is necessary. They then cordially discussed the Indian Navy’s carrying out of water surface security affairs and military exercises, strengthening of bilateral ties and cooperation between the navies of the two countries and cooperation in natural disaster relief and humanitarian issues.

Then, the Senior General and delegation members went to the View Point from where they enjoyed the scenic beauty of the port in Visakhapatnam. On arrival at the DOLPHIN’S Cove officers’ guest house of the Naval Command Headquarters, they had a group photo taken and viewed the beauty of the port. Vice Admiral Bisht extended greetings and hosted a luncheon in honour of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and delegation members. During the luncheon, the Military Band of the Naval Command Headquarters played music.

Later, the Myanmar Tatmadaw delegation visited the multi-purpose frigate INS Satpura for study. The Senior General took the salute of the Guard of Honour of the frigate and inspected it. Then, they posed for documentary photo onboard the frigate.The Ship Commander reported on history and facts about the frigate, and its capability.After the Senior General asked about some points he wanted to know, they viewed round the frigate. At the parlour of frigate, the Ship Commander presented an emblem to the Senior General who returned the commemorative gift to him. 

Then, the Senior General signed the visitors’ book.Afterwards, the Senior General and party visited water surface clearance vessel Sindhushastra of the Indian Coast Guard. First, the Guard of Honour of the vessel welcomed the Senior General. Deputy Inspecting General SERAWAT explained facts about the naval vessel and its tasks. The Senior General and party raised questions they wanted to know. After visiting round the vessel, they posed for documentary photo. Afterwards, the Senior General signed the visitors’ book.

Next, the Senior General and party visited attack submarine INS Sindhudhwaj where they were welcomed by Ship Commander Commander Srikanf Raman who explained salient points of the submarine. The Senior General and party visited interior of the submarine, and the Senior General signed the visitors’ book.

On arrival at Submarine Auxiliaries Department,the Senior General and party were welcomed by Rear Admiral Narajan Prasad and officials who explained procedures of the workshop. The Senior General and party proceeded to the airbase of Eastern Naval Command Headquarters where they observed airplanes and helicopters being used in the Indian Navy, and officials conducted them round the airbase.
