Ground troops of the Army,military vessels and skilled diver soldiers of the Navy,aircraft and helicopters of the Air Force in cooperation with locals and fishing trawlers continued search and rescue operations for crashed military transport plane Y-8 in the sea and along the coast yesterday.
The Chief of General Staff(Navy) provided close supervision aboard for military vessels and skilled diver soldiers of the Navy in the operation as sonar-installed military vessels searched the bodies.Likewise, the Chief of General Staff (Air Force)gave close supervision aboard for planes and choppers that joined the operation. They combined the findings of the Navy with their own and assisted the search operation of military vessels and fishing trawlers.
Concerned authorities distributed meals and foods arranged by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and families of the local battalion to departmental personnel and local people engaging in search and rescue works.
Today, ground troops which conducted search and rescue operation along Maungmakan- Mayingyi beach recovered three bodies—two males and another unidentified. A total of 86 bodies were recovered so far.
The bodies recovered from the sea were sent to military hospital in Dawei where they were identified by victims’ family members, and forensic tests were conducted. A total 48 bodies—24 males, 20 females, and four children—could be identified and were cremated in accordance with Buddhist rituals and the military procedures.
