Search and rescue efforts for the crashed plane are being exerted to the best of ability with a full percent use of aircraft, watercraft, manpower and machine power. The whole Tatmadaw was deeply saddened by the unexpected incident. And best assistance will be provided for the livelihoods of the bereaved families, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at a ceremony to donate cash by well-wishers to the bereaved families of the crew members, officers, other ranks and their families who were onboard the Tatmadaw transport plane Y-8 that crashed into the sea on 7 June, at Aung Nyein Aye Hall in Nay Pyi Taw Command headquarters at 2 pm Yesterday.

The ceremony was also attended by the Senior General’s wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, the Union Ministers for Home Affairs, Defence and Border Affairs, the Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air), senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, commanders of Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Coastal Region commands and donors.

First, the Senior General gave a briefing on getting a report about the crash of the Tatmadaw transport plane Y-8 at about 3 pm on 7 June, preparations for search and rescue while waiting for the news until the plane could fly as far as possible with the amount of fuel onboard and the release of reports since the plane surely went missing.

The Senior General continued that there was a very big cloud around the plane crash site at that time according to the weather condition, the discovery of some parts of the crashed plane and 33 bodies and the continued efforts to conduct search and rescue operations amid the bad weather. The Senior General said the crashed plane was expected to be found soon as it crashed in the country’s territory and some evidences were collected. He said some media covered the news about the plane crash based on the unconfirmed sources and rumours. Afterwards, the Senior General explained that the Tatmadaw was giving encouragement to bereaved families of officers, other ranks and family members who were killed in the Y-8 plane crash and providing necessary assistance including funeral service. The Senior General expressed special thanks to fishing vessels, departments, social organizations and locals in Taninthayi Region who helped in search and rescue operations by heart and soul, donors and heads of the countries, organizations and local political parties which sent the letters of condolences.

After that, the Senior General received Ks-30 million donated by Retired Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and wife, Retired Major Daw Mya Mya San and family, Ks-43.1 million by the families of senior military officers, Ks-15.8 million by deputy chief military officers and their families and Ks-299.7 million by officers, other ranks and families of military commands and divisions. Then, the Senior General and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and family donated Ks-12.2 million to the Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air).

Afterwards, officers, other ranks and families of Tatmadaw (Navy) presented Ks-15 million, officers,other ranks and families of Tatmadaw (Air) Ks-20 million, families of the Office of the Chief of Armed Forces Training, the National Defence College and senior officer trainees cash donations to the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army).

Next, the Union Minister for Defence accepted Ks-20 million donated by Nawngtong Co Ltd, Ks-20 million by Golden Land Real Estate Development Co Ltd (Golden City Project), Ks-10 million by Royal Sky Co Ltd (Dragon Golf City Project), Ks-20 million by Eden Co Ltd, Ks-15 million by Bangkok-based Myanmar Golf Association and Ks-10 million by Shwe Yay Kan Co while the Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) also accepted cash donations from graduate officers of the No 28 and No 35 Intakes of the Defence Services Academy, Ks-10 million from Ayeyawady Education and Health Multi-Developments Foundation and cash donations from other well-wishers.

The Commander-in-Chief (Navy) accepted Ks-50 million each donated by International Gate Way Group Co Ltd, Myanmar Advisory Co Ltd, Shwe Thanlwin Co and Asia World Co Ltd, Ks-30 million each by Chan Hein Co Ltd and Amazing Co Ltd. The Commander-in-Chief (Air) also accepted Ks-30 million each donated by Kyei Nilar Group of Companies, Aung Myin Thu Co Ltd, Sky One & Lucky Man Co Ltd, Authentic Co Ltd and Mottama Foundation. The Quartermaster- General accepted Ks-10 million donated by PT Power+ BOC Group and cash donations from graduate officers of No 24 Intake of the Defence Services Academy and other well-wishers.

After the ceremony, the Senior General cordially greeted the well-wishers and media. Today’s cash donations by well-wishers for the bereaved families of crew members, officers, other ranks and families onboard the Tatmadaw transport plane Y-8 which crashed into the sea on 7 June amounted to more than Ks-990.8 million.
