Birdwatchers criticize about entry fees to Hlawga

Yangon May 5

Myanmar birdwatching association criticized about collecting K- 10,000 fees for entry to the Hlawga National Wildlife Park.

"Previously, bird watching fees was collected when birdwatchers came to the park in the closing hour," said Dr. Thein Aung, vice chairman of Myanmar Amateur Bird watching Association adding that birdwatchers even need to pay fees now when they come the park in the opening hour and the collecting system is totally wrong.

Hlawga National Wildlife Park is located near Yangon and it is an easy place to go for birdwatchers.

Therefore, birdwatchers said that entry fees should be collected systematically.

Concerned with collecting entry fees in Hlawga National Wildlife Park, the administrator from Hlawga National Wildlife Park said that the fees was raised from K-5,000 to K-10,000 since last year and the reason is that the administration department had to give service, guide, security for birdwatchers and the offi ce decided to change the collecting system.

At present, Resident and migratory birds are abundant inside the park and identified species include the jungle fowl (Gallus gallus), red-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer), lesser whistling duck (Dendrocygna javanica), Asian openbill stork (Anastomus oscitans), blackcrowned night heron (Nycticonax nycticorax) and white-throated babbler (Turdoidesgularis).
