KIA insurgents commit smuggling of Myanmar’s precious natural resources from Kachin State, collection of extortion money from travelling people, disturbing security forces with shooting and planting of mines on the communication routes for flow of commodity of the people against the processes of peace policy of the government and the Tatmadaw with neglecting eternal peace the entire people long for.

KIA insurgents have been informed not to hold arms beyond the designated area and not to destroy natural environments and ecosystems.

In addition, the Tatmadaw submitted a proposal on such issues to the second Kachin State Hluttaw on 6 December 2017. However, KIA insurgents continue destructive acts and smuggling of precious natural resources including committing the mine attacks and shooting at security forces who are on duty of regional security and rule of law. Moreover, they attacked the headquarters of a local military unit in Shaduzup Village of Tanai Township with the use of heavy and small arms on 30 December 2017 and 22 January 2018.

KIA insurgents still collect extortion money from travelling people and plant mines on the public roads. From 20 July 2017 to date, they collected extortion money on Mogaung-Kamaing-Hpakant road seven times and Mongkaung-Lawah-Tanai road five times, and exploded mines 42 times which caused many travelling people injured.

In preventing illegal extractions of natural resources of the State, the Tatmadaw seized 94 backhoes, 12 dump trucks, one 10-wheeled truck, two fuel bowsers and 16 gold panning rafts used in illegal gold mining, amber mining and timber smuggling in Tanai region in that period.

As KIA continues such acts without following several warnings of the Tatmadaw, region clearance and rule of law started in Tanai region on 2 January 2018 for ensuring peace and stability of the region, for enabling the local people to enjoy results of security and tranquility, for speeding up flow of commodities and not for causing degradation of environment. In this regard, there were 10 clashes and three times of mine blasts. One custom gate and one small camp were occupied and arms and ammunition of KIA insurgents seized.

In the incidents, some enemies were dead while some soldiers of the Tatmadaw were dead and injured. The Tatmadaw continues region clearance tasks.
