Coordination meeting on search and rescue operations in connection with crashed transport aircraft Y-8 (5820) of Tatmadaw (Air) held

A coordination meeting on the search and rescue operations in connection with the crashed transport aircraft Y-8 (5820) of Tatmadaw (Air) was held at the meeting room of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) here at 9 am yesterday, attended by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Also present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Ye Aung,Chief of the General Staff (Army,Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Khin Aung Myint, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief,Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Aung Soe and officials.

In his opening address, the Senior General said the recent incident is a great loss of the Tatmadaw and the country. Thanks to the collective efforts, effective search and rescue operations can be carried out in the short time. The local people including the fishing boats have been rendering a helping hand to the operations with might and main. Well-wishers in the whole country and families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) have been making donations. Every single lost life counts, including the life of U Saw Naung who died while conducting underwater search.Search and rescue operations will be continued depending on weather condition in the area.

Chief of Staff (Navy) Rear-Admiral Moe Aung presented a report on the situation of the day-wise search and rescue operations carried out from 7 June to 2 July,the collective search and rescue operations of 13 Navy vessels, and 26 local fishing boats of Htoo Htoo Toe Company, Pyae Phyo Tun Company,Khaing Zin Yaw Company and U Min Oo Company, the cooperation between Navy divers and civilian diver groups, daring search and rescue operations amidst the bad weather condition in the area, retrieving and conveying of the parts of the crashed plane and bodies of the victims, and plans to continue search and rescue operations with nine Navy vessels, eight local fishing boats and 33 skilled soldiers divers including officers and other ranks.

Chief of Staff (Air) Maj-Gen Maung Maung Kyaw reported on history of Tatmadaw transport aircraft Y-8 (5820) and fl ight records,documents caught by radars on crashed incident of the plane, climatic conditions caught by weather satellite and meteorological radars during the crashed incident, impacts of downdraft which may occur near clouds, 35 times in more than 55 flight hours participation of three airplanes and two helicopters from the Tatmadaw(Air) in search and rescue operations,salvage of Flight Data Recorder-FDR and Cockpit Voice Recorder-CVR on 18 June, scrutiny and putting records for identification of Nose Section, Middle Fuselage and Rear Section in salvage of 261 parts of the plane from 8 June to 2 July, and formation of the combined inspection group including the third party to investigate the crash of plane.

Then, Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Hsan Oo presented reports on accepting of cash donations for the officers, other ranks and families who included in the crashed plane,and quick processes on carrying out inheritance and rights.

Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Nyo Saw reported on arrangements being made for resettlement and job opportunities for members of the bereaved families.

After hearing the reports, the Senior General said that avidity of all officials and participants could successfully carry out search and rescue operations. The Senior General stressed the need to correctly conduct investigation over the incident of crashed plane and to release the true information. It is necessary to take security measures with great efforts for planes and passengers in order to avoid similar incidents in the future. It needs to systematically allot the donated cash to the respective persons as soon as possible. And, more donated cash which may be received will be allotted separately. The Senior General instructed those present to arrange deserved rights for members of the bereaved families and fulfill their requirements including living,education and health matters. He urged them to carry out the tasks at the sea depending on correct weather forecast. And, the Senior General stressed the need to safely continue search and salvage operations till the final stage.
