Senior General Min Aung Hlaing holds talks with Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission Gen. Xu Qiliang

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met Gen. Xu Qiliang, Vice- Chairman of the Central Military Commission at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse at 6.15 pm local standard time yesterday.

First, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Gen. Xu Qiliang posed for documentary photo and held discussions at the anteroom of the Diaoyutai Guesthouse. The Senior General was accompanied by Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo and senior military officials, Myanmar Ambassador to People’s Republic of China U Thit Lin Ohn and Military Attaché Brig-Gen Tint San, and Gen. Xu Qiliang was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Joint Staff of China People’s Liberation Army Admiral Sun Jian Guo.

At the meeting, the Senior General said that Myanmar and China are neighbours and boast brotherly ties, and that the relationship between the two countries, governments, parties and armed forces can be fostered via people-to-people contact, that wide cooperation in various sectors will create a ‘force’ for bilateral friendship and cooperation.

Gen. Xu Qiliang said that China would continue to cooperate with Myanmar based on deep Pauk-Phaw friendship that dates back to over 2,000 years between people of the two countries, and that he agreed to increase cooperation between the two armed forces, and that cordial contact between lower levels of the two armed forces and swift submission of reports to the upper echelons will help guarantee fruitful results.

Next, they cordially discussed matters related to border region peace, coordinated efforts for peace with ethnic armed groups, promotion of socio-economy of people living on border areas, exchange of goodwill visits and discussions between the two militaries and promotion of cooperation in training and various other areas.

Then, the Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission hosted a dinner in honour of the Myanmar Tatmadaw goodwill delegation led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. Gen. Xu Qiliang extended greetings and the Senior General spoke words of thanks.

They then enjoyed the dinner during which the entertainment team from the political department of the PLA presented songs and dances. The Senior General and Gen. Xu Qiliang exchanged gifts. Later, the Senior General presented the entertainment group with gifts.
