As the way of practicing a genuine democracy may be different between one country and another, Myanmar is practicing a type of democracy that is suitable for it. In fact, the abidance of law is the core of democracy. Generally a government chosen by the people runs a democratic nation within the framework of law, and at the same meeting the objective conditions also matters. In this situation we all are doing our best, said Commanderin- Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at his meeting with Club de Madrid member and former president of Chile Mr. Ricardo Froilan Lagos Escobar at Zeyathiri parlour here at 11 am yesterday.

Together with the Senior General were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior GeneralSoe Win and senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in- Chief. Mr. Escobar was accompanied by Deputy Secretary General of Club de Madrid Ms. Ma Elena Aguero and officials.

During the talks the former Chilean president said transition is a rather difficult process with no example of the best quality, expressing belief that peace process is the biggest and the most difficult part of the power transferring work between the old and new governments. As Myanmar is formed with regions and states, the government, civil societies, Tatmadaw and people must do their best while understanding the national situation, he noted, adding, unity is important for Myanmar. The Senior General in his discussions said as peace is a matter of life-and-death for the country, the Tatmadaw is making concessions to the most possible degree in trying to restore it. While doing what is best for the armed ethnic groups, the Tatmadaw will join hands with the incoming government for the success of the peace process. The discussions also focused on Tatmadaw’s role in ensuring peace and stability in the post-election period and in cooperating with the upcoming government for national peace, stability and progress.
