Senior General Min Aung Hlaing holds talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for National Defence Gen. Tea Banh.

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who was on a goodwill tour of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for National Defence Gen. Tea Banh at the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia at 3 pm local standard time on 8 March.

Also present at the call together with the Senior General were Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo, Myanmar Ambassador to Cambodia U Myint Soe and Military Attaché Col Win Ko. Gen. Tea Banh was accompanied by Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence Gen. Sam Vanthan and senior military officers.

At the call, Gen. Tea Banh expressed pleasure for the military cooperation between Myanmar and Cambodia, assuring continuous implementation of the project. He said Cambodia faced internal confusion over ten years ago. The nation was rebuilt through much difficulty during the next ten years when peace could be restored totally. Myanmar and Cambodia have a lot of similarities. The armed forces have the responsibility to help steer the country. Both countries are facing accusations in connection with the human rights issue. The two countries must create a better environment through the process of exchanging experiences.

The Senior General said the visit aims at enhancing military relations and cooperation between the two countries. People of the two countries are the descendents of a single ancestry, who are Theravada Buddhists having the similar culture and agro-based economy. These similarities must be beneficially used. Military cooperation must be promoted. The two countries must support each other while have mutual understanding. Myanmar has been striving for development since it regained independence. Cambodia after restoring peace and stability could develop itself within a period of 20 years thanks to the good work of the leaders, the government and the party and the participation of the people in unity. The Tatmadaw is lending a cent per cent helping hand in the peace process with the will for seeing national development.

After the meeting, the Senior General and the Deputy PM exchanged commemorative emblems and posed for documentary photo.
