Senior General Min Aung Hlaing holds talks with Ambassador of Turkey to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Kerem Divanlioglu.
Nay Pyi Taw May 31
As a country with eight major ethnic races and over 130 other ethnic races, unity seems to be difficult for Myanmar, but in history great kings like Anawratha, Bayintnaung and Alaungphaya could establish the Union of Myanmar with the united strength of the entire national people. However, the country is still resolving the doubts among the national races caused by the divide-and-rule policy of the British when it was a colony. Hence, our history teaches us to safeguard Our Three Main National Causes, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at his meeting with Ambassador of Turkey to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Kerem Divanlioglu at Bayintnaung Parlour here at 11 am yesterday.
Also present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Lt-Gen Soe Htut of the Office of the Commander-in Chief (Army) and officials. The ambassador was accompanied by the deputy head of the embassy Mr. Eymen Ozsahin.
First, the ambassador expressed interest in Myanmar’s ancient cultural heritage, saying during his visit to Defence Services Museum he witnessed the stance of Myanmar and Turkey and their bilateral relations over 1000 years during the reign of King Anawratha who founded the First Myanmar Kingdom and the similarities in cultural and social histories. He then explained the current cooperation in the aviation, educational development and economic sectors of the two countries, the potential for extending cooperation with the Tatmadaw, terrorism Turkey is facing in its national defence undertakings, the possible hardships the outside interferences can trigger against the national security, democratization and development undertakings.
The Senior General said although Myanmar and Turkey are far away from one another, they are friends. The ancient empire of Turkey was much extensive, enjoying high level of culture, knowhow and economy.
At present, the two countries have bilateral cooperation in many areas. Some issues of economic cooperation should be aware as they have behindthe-scenes complicity. Anti-terrorism measures cannot be taken by a single country so cooperation between the two militaries is required in exchanging information. Myanmar would promote the contacts between the two militaries, said the Senior General.
Then, both sides cordially discussed Myanmar’s peace process, holding of the Union Peace Conference-21st Century Panglong (second session), peace, stability and development efforts for Rakhine State, Turkey’s stance on Rakhine State, the need to understand and accept the citizenship verification process by making lists and achieving of success if the process is based on honesty and trust.
After the meeting, the Senior General and the Turkish ambassador exchanged gifts.
