Traditional cane wears attract westerners

Myanmar traditional cane crafts are in high demand from foreign countries, U Kyaw Thu, the chairperson of Myanmar Cane and Bamboo Entrepreneurs Association says.

“Many western countries order Myanmar cane wears, mostly from the Europe, Australia and the countries in the Americas. They mostly place orders for wears like the cane box and cane wears for table decoration’’, he added.

Currently, bamboo and cane become scarce. Cane raw materials can be collected in the forest in Kachin state.

Cane manufactures are facing raw material problems due to the regional conditions and other circumstances.

A cane entrepreneur said: “Now I have enough raw materials collected last year, to produce finished cane wears. But I may face a shortage of raw materials in coming rainy season.”
