As the Archaeology Department was making feasibility study to repair the ordination hall of Yan Pyay Stupa in Kyay Pin Lal village, Mrauk U, devastated by Cyclone Koman last year, they found ancient pagoda fence and stupas there.
“We submitted a proposal to repair the roof of the ordination hall of Yan Pyay Stupa. As the archaeology department was making ground survey, they found ancient religious edifi ces and excavated them,” said U Aung Hla Kyaw, a member of the board of trustees.
“Currently, we found one fence, two stupas and ruins of ancient throne. After excavating for two additional days, we will suspend the excavation process due to the water under the ground. At present, it is more important to place the stupa and the building under the roof,” said U Mg MgThan who is repairing the building at the site.
“Most people know that Yan Pyay Stupa, where the Archaeology Department found ancient fence and stupas, was built by Sit Thu Gyi(Commander-in-Chief) Wunna Kyaw Htin about 400 years ago,” said U Mg Thein Nu, chairman of the board of trustees.
“Moreover, they will hold a meeting on collecting money from donors to place the ancient pagoda fence and stupas under the roof,” he added.
