Tatmadawmen have to uphold loyalty. They have to say words of oath when they fall in every day. Being a Tatmadaw member is meaningful only if he takes the fourth oaths. As Tatmadaw is an organization which turns out good soldiers, all servicemen must be morally good, loyal, disciplined and obedient. Moreover, Tatmadawmen have their respective duties to carry out conscientiously, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence  Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in a meeting with officers and other ranks and their families of Mongton Station.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, accompanied by Joint Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Khin Aung Myint, Commander- in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, senior officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and Commander of Triangle Region Command Brig-Gen Aung Zaw Aye, met the servicemen and their families at Mongton Station hall yesterday afternoon.

As for the duties of Tatmadawmen, the Senior General described the life of a soldier as being combatready, hardworking and sacrificial. By nature of combat, soldiers must brace on the ground for bombs and shells while working very hard and risking their lives, blood and sweat.  By overcoming all difficulties, they must always train themselves in order to win every battle, the Senior General said. The duty of Tatmadaw is to safeguard the country and life and property of the people and to extend a helping hand to the government’s national development endeavours. In protecting the people, Tatmadawmen must adhere to the ethics adopted in the public interest. In addition, Tatmadawmen must respect and follow the soldier’s code of 60 ethics because it serves them as a charter. Tatmadawmen, therefore, need to value the characteristics of a soldier as they are leading a life of soldier whose duties every man cannot dare to shoulder. Every religion ushers the good of humanity in its own way. In Myanmar, 80 per cent of the population takes faith in Buddhism. To become Buddhist, one needs to keep the Five Precepts. The Senior General urged Tatmadawmen to try to promote their dignity by being loyal to the state and sticking to the Five Precepts and the 60 ethics. Theconstitution stipulates the Tatmadaw role and duties. Tatmadaw therefore must carry out such duties. Regarding the national defence, Tatmadawmen are urged to be always prepared for national duties and train themselves in order to improve combat skills, the Senior General concluded.

Later, the Senior General presented foodstuff and publications to the officers, other ranks and their families, wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla cash awards to the Maternal and Child Welfare Association and General Khin Aung Myint potatoes, onions and sport equipment to the servicemen and their families. The Senior General and party then cordially greeted those present. After the meeting, the Senior General and party inspected the units and regiments in the station and fulfilled the administrative ne eds. (100)
