The Myanmar Tatmadaw goodwill delegation led by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, during its goodwill tour of India, arrived at India Gate at 9.20 am local standard time on 18 September and was welcomed by Additional Director General of Ceremonial & Welfare Major General RP Kalita, SM, VSM of the Indian Army and officials. Vice-Senior General Soe Win laid a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti and signed the visitors’ book.
On arrival at South Block Lawns of the Ministry of Defence of India, Vice-Senior General Soe Win and delegation were welcomed by General Officer Commanding of Delhi Area Lieutenant General Asit Mistry AVSM, SM, VSM and officials.
The Vice-Senior General took the salute of the Guard of Honour and inspected it.The Vice-Senior General met Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army General Bipin Rawat, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM,ADC at the Office of the Chief of Army Staff at South Block, and discussed in detail border peace and security and promotion of relations and cooperation between the two armed forces.
Afterwards, the Vice-Senior General and delegation held talks with Vice Chief of Navy Staff Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar P, AVSM, VSM. Cordial talks were centred on carrying out the bilateral undertakings between two navies in the common interest and the cooperation in the possible sectors for securing the Indian Ocean. Then, souvenirs and gifts were exchanged.
In the evening, the Vice-Senior General and delegation visited the South Block again and held talks with Minister of Defence of India Mrs. Nirmala Sithraman.Views on bilateral cooperation based on mutual friendship and respect, promotion of relations and cooperation between the two armed forces in the future, peace and stability of border area and foreign affairs policy of Myanmar and the defence policy of the Tatmadaw were exchanged.
