Nay Pyi Taw, August 21

China and Myanmar are not only friendly neighbors but also strategic partners. The 65-year old diplomatic relations between the two countries have seen better relations. In addition to political relations, the relations between the two armed forces are also fine. We are going to further strengthen military relations said, Commander-in- Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at his meeting with Ambassador of China H.E. Mr. Hong Liang at Zeyathiri villa here at 10 am.

Present together with the Senior General were senior military officials of the office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army). The Chinese ambassador was accompanied by Military Attaché Col Wang Jimbo and officials.

At the meeting the Senior General said Myanmar and China share an over 2000 kilometer long land border where ethnic peoples of the same races living on both sides and having contacts with one another across the boundary. Although there are some border problems they can be solved through dialogue. The important thing is that people living in the border should observe the management undertakings of the two governments. As Myanmar side is doing its best, China is also working very well. This will greatly support the bilateral relations. We thank China for providing us with mental and material assistance during the worst floods in 70 years. We also express sympathy for China as it too faced loss of lives due to floods and explosion. We need to protect the natural environment as some regions are also facing the natural disasters due to climate change. Greater efforts should be made to prevent using Myanmar as the base for drug production and trafficking.

Mainly the Ministry of Homes Affairs is doing the job of eradicating and curbing narcotic drugs and Tatmadaw is rendering assistance. Myanmar will provide utmost cooperation in anti-drug activities. The relations between the two armed forces are important in the country-to-country relations; particularly it is more important among the neighbors and friends. Hence, we are striving

to promote relations with the armed forces of the neighbors. Tatmadaw never accepts any matter that can harm the bilateral relations.

Cordial discussions were then centered on further strengthening of military relations, exchange of goodwill visits, anti-drug campaigns, cooperation in border affairs, enhancing education, health, culture, sports relations apart from military relations, and cooperation in the relief measures in Myanmar.
