Senior General Min Aung Hlaing views raising of layers at agriculture and
livestock breeding camp (Sawbwagyigon)of Yangon Command.

Nay Pyi Taw March 30

By extending agriculture and livestock breeding production with the conviction that the Tatmadaw must be in the service of the country and the people, it should help fulfil the public food requirement. The people of Yangon must be taken into consideration apart from the officers, other ranks and families of the command, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing during his inspection of the No.1 Agriculture and Livestock Breeding Camp (Sawbwagyigon) of Yangon Command.

The Senior General accompanied by Deputy Commander- in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Commander-in- Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in- Chief (Air) General Khin Aung Myint, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), the commander of Yangon Command and officials visited the camp yesterday morning.

At the brief ing hall, the command commander explained the raising of Novogen Brown layers and broilers under modern airconditioning system, DYL pig farming, dairy cow breeding, systematic surface layer, middle layer and bottom layer species-wise fish farming, Ngwehnin mushroom and banana cultivation, year-round seasonal crop cultivation in Greenhouse, distribution of meat, fish and vegetables of the camp to officers, other ranks and families of the command at reasonable prices, selling of the produce to the people at Taing Shwegon Shop No.1 in Sawbwagyigon and Taing Shwegon Shop No.2 in Baukhtaw at reasonable prices.

In response to the report, the Senior General said that in engaging in agriculture and livestock, it is necessary to transform from test-run cultivation to a mass cultivation and production system. Priority must be given to growing crop items which are popular among the consumers such as okra, radish, cabbage and green chilli and their production must be boosted. As land space is so valuable, no space should be left in cultivating crops and vegetables. Growing crops layer by layer in greenhouses based on the type of crop item will save land space and use of water. The cultivation of such vegetables as drumsticks and bananas should also be considered. The military headquarters need to grow windbreaks to maintain sound climate and prevent natural disaster. In running the military-owned agricultural and livestock farms, profit-seeking is not important and it must mainly target the 100 percent consumption needs of Tatmadawmen and their families, the needs for retired Tatmadawmen and pensioners, sale of products for the local people at cheaper rates and the welfare of students, civil servants and ordinary people.

Then, the Senior General and party viewed raising of Novogen Brown layers with the modern air-conditioning system at the agriculture and livestock breeding camp. A total of 10,000 Novogen Brown layers are being bred at the camp, and they lay 95 percent of eggs during the four-week laying period.

Next, the Senior General and officials were conducted round by officials at thriving of Chinese kale, mustard and cauliflower plantations in the green houses.

The agriculture and livestock breeding camps from Yangon Command produced more than 760,000 chickens, 595 piglets, 1,490,247 viss of chicken, 201,884 viss of pork, 4,735 viss of mutton, 27,308 viss of beef, 9,612 viss of duck, 451,220 viss of fish, 1,125,870 duck eggs, 22,026,824 hen eggs and 138,921 viss of milk from January 2016 to February 2017.
