Botahtaung Pagoda sees increase in tourist arrivals

Yangon April 1

Botahtaung Pagoda in Yangon receives about 300 arrivals of tourists a day this year, said an official from the Botahtaung Pagoda Board of Trustees.

An increase in the tourist arrivals is linked to the tourist season. The tourist arrivals do not decline despite the Pagoda Board of Trustees raised entrance fees to five from three dollars as of April 1.

Most of the visitors to the pagoda are Thai citizens. Visitors touring Yangon are fl ocking to this pagoda over the years.

The Pagoda Board of Trustees carries out all-round renovation of the pagoda with the use of entrance fees collected. The pagoda has received a significant number of tourists since 2014.

Entrance fee increase faces criticism from tourism companies. The Shwedagon Pagoda collects eight dollars from tourists while the Botahtaung Pagoda’s entrance fee is five dollars. (Soe Moe)
