Senior General Min Aung Hlaing arrives in Wing-6 of Royal Thai Air Force, calls on Thai Prime Minister, Chairman of Privy Council of Thai King and meets embassy staff and family members

Myanmar Tatmadaw delegation led by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing left Nay Pyi Taw at 7.35 am today for Thailand by Myanmar Tatmadaw special plane to attend the 3rd Thailand-Myanmar High Level Committee Meeting and arrived at Royal Thai Air Force Wing-6 of Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok at 10 am local time.

The delegation was welcomed by General Surapong Suwana-Adth, the Deputy Chief of Joint Staff of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and military officers from Royal Thai Armed Forces, Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Win Maung and Myanmar Military Attaché to Thailand (Army, Navy and Air) Brig-Gen Chit Swe.

The delegation then proceeded to Thai Government Office in a motorcade and arrived there at 11 am local time and paid a call on Prime Minister of Thailand General Prayut Chan-o-cha. Present on the occasion together with the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services of Myanmar were Lt-Gen Yar Paye and senior military officers from Commander-in-Chief Office (Army), Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Win Maung and the military attaché. The Thai Prime Minister was accompanied by Chief of Defence Forces of Thailand General Warapong Sanganetra and senior military officers from Royal Thai Armed Forces.

At the meeting, the Commanderin-Chief of Defence Services said that bilateral relations are being promoted between two countries as well as two armed forces and the friendship between the two armed forces is being fostered. The high level committee meeting (HLC) has reached its third round and neighboring countries are interested in the relations between two armed forces and matters related to township border committee (TBC), regional border committee (RBC) and HLC meetings of two countries. Myanmar was faced with flood disaster in June, July and August and the Government of Myanmar is grateful that the Government of Thailand which has provided 18 million Baht assistance and relief supplies and dispatched medical teams for flood relief. The Commander-in-Chief said it was upsetting to see the bomb blast in Bangkok on August 17 and his thoughts were with the families of victims and Thai citizens. He said Myanmar Tatmadaw is always willing to cooperate for stability of two countries. He praised the Thai Prime Minister for progress Thailand has made under his leadership.

The Thai Prime Minister said that Thai government supports the reforms of Myanmar, and is against the organizations which rise against Myanmar government and the Thai government feels sorry about the floods in Myanmar. He said Thailand has experience in flood relief, and stressed the importance of rehabilitation works. He said the cooperation between the two countries has gained highest momentum and Thailand is ready to open industrial zones at the border of two countries. He hoped that industrial zones would be opened soon at Myanmar border. He said cooperation would be speeded up regarding the registration of Myanmar migrant workers.

After the meeting, Commanderin-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Thai Prime Minister General Parayut Chan-o-cha posed for documentary photos together with members.

The Commander-in-Chief then paid a call on General Prem Tinsulanonda, Head of Privy Council of the King of Thailand, at his residence in Bangkok at 2 pm local time. Also present on the occasion were Lt-Gen Mya Tun Oo and senior military officers from Commander-in-Chief Office (Army), Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Win Maung and the military attaché. Their discussion focused on matters related to cooperation between the two countries for stability and development, Myanmar’s democratization process, collaboration between the government, Tatmadaw and people of Myanmar for flood relief and relations between two governments and two armed forces.

After the meeting, the two exchanged gifts. The Commander-in- Chief visited the residence of the Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand at 7 pm local time where he was welcomed by Ambassador U Win Maung, Myanmar Military Attaché to Thailand (Army, Navy and Air) Brig-Gen Chit Swe, embassy staff, their family members and Myanmar overseas students.

The Commander-in-Chief presented gifts, foods and scholarships to embassy staff and their family members and Myanmar overseas students. Then embassy staff hosted dinner to Myanmar Tatmadaw delegation.
