Myanmar’s tourism development even reaches her border areas that Goteik Viaduct in the northern Shan State is seeing an ever increasing infl ux of tourists from around the world.
Crossing 320 feet above a deep canyon between Nongcho and Kyaukme townships, the 2260-foot bridge was built in 1903. Most of the vacationers travel by train from Mandalay and take photos and videos of the facility and the breathtaking scenery of its environment.
After the photo and video session, they usually visit traditional bamboo hat and bamboo paper industry at nearby Mwaydaw village.
Northern Shan State where the bridge is located is an emerging tourist hotspot reachable from Yangon and Mandalay by car and train. Visitors can travel to Museat Myanmar-China border from its major town, Lashio by car.
Chinese, French, Americans, Dutch and Spanish tourists are the majority at the destination. The 566-mile Lashio-Mandalay- Yangon railroad has many more things to offer as people of different cultures, occupations and lifestyles live along the route which passes through different terrains. Seven airlines are also flying between Yangon and Lashio.
According to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, Shan State north has mountain villages where people conserve their traditional ways of life till now.
