71st Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day for 2018 marked, people pay tribute to General Aung San and other fallen leaders in remembrance of their gratitude

The 71st Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day for 2018 was celebrated at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum in Bahan Township, Yangon, at 8 am yesterday. State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, daughter of fallen national leader General Aung San, attended the event and laid a wreath at the Mausoleum of General Aung San and other fallen leaders.

It was also attended by Patron of the Central Committee for Organizing the 71st Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day Vice President U Myint Swe, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than, Chief Justice of the Union U Tun Tun Oo, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Deputy Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Tun Tun Hein, Deputy Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker U Aye Tha Aung, Chairman of the Central Committee for Organizing the 71st Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, Union Ministers, the Vice Chairman of the Central Committee for Organizing the 71st Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day Yangon Region Chief Minister, senior military offi cers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), the commander of Yangon Command, deputy ministers, Hluttaw representatives, members of the Central Committee and Work Committees, departmental officials,families of the fallen leaders and guests.

First, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Vice President U Myint Swe, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than, Union Chief Justice U Tun Tun Oo and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing cordially greeted the family members of the fallen leaders at the parlour of the Mausoleum. 

Next, Vice President U Myint Swe, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than, Union Chief Justice U Tun Tun Oo, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Union Ministers laid a wreath of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at the Mausoleum of General Aung San and other fallen leaders and gave their salutes.

The State Flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was fl own at half-mast to mourn General Aung San and his colleagues while the Guard of Honour saluted by holding up their guns and the military band played mourning whistles. The attendees stood in silence for two minutes, praying for the fallen martyrs.

Then, families of fallen martyrs including nephew U Ye Aung Than, who attended the ceremony on behalf of General Aung San’s son U Aung San Oo, and daughter State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi laid wreaths at the mausoleum, paid respects and shared merits for them. Afterwards, the vice chairman of the Central Committee for Organizing 71st Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day the Yangon Region Chief Minister, region ministers, the region Hluttaw speaker and deputy speaker, lawmakers, and representatives of political parties laid wreaths at the mausoleum.

Next, representatives from social organizations including Myanmar War Veterans Organization, Myanmar Fire Brigade, Myanmar Red Cross Society, Myanmar Motion Picture Organization, Myanmar Music Association, Myanmar Thabin Association, Myanmar Artists and Artisans Association (Central), Myanmar Publishers and Distributors Association, Myanmar Writers Association, Myanmar Journalists Association, Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation, and Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association laid wreaths and paid tribute to General Aung San and other martyrs at the Martyr’s Mausoleum.

Ambassadors, charges d’ affaires and representatives from foreign embassies, and agencies under the European Union and the United Nations also laid wreaths and paid tribute to General Aung San and other martyrs at the mausoleum.

Then, people who attended the 71st Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day for 2018 came to the mausoleum to pay their tribute in remembrance of the gratitude of General Aung San and other fallen leaders.Yesterday, a total of 51,071 people attended the 71st Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day for 2018 at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum to pay tribute. 

Likewise, a total of 20,213 people visited the Bogyoke Aung San Museum in Bahan Township of Yangon and 19,726 the Ministers’ Office (Secretariat) in Botahtaung Township of Yangon where the martyr leaders fell.
