UN Peacekeeping Officer Training Programme launches

The UN Peacekeeping Officer Training Programme, a joint training project between the Myanmar Tatmadaw and the Indian Armed Forces, was launched at a ceremony held at Park Royal Hotel here yesterday morning.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, Ambassador of India to Myanmar H.E.Mr. Vikram Misri, Military Attaché Colonel Naveen Mahajan, officer instructors of Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping-CUNPK of the Indian Armed Forces and officer trainees of the Tatmadaw.

In his opening address, Vice-Senior General Soe Win explained the Tatmadaw’s participation in the United Nations peacekeeping operations as military observers and staff officers, sending of trainees to UN peacekeeping courses in Spain, Norway, Australia, Ukraine, Malaysia,Cambodia, Pakistan and India for the Tatmadaw to take part in the UN peacekeeping operations in the future, courses being conducted by inviting mobile training teams from peacekeeping training centres of friendly countries, conducting training with the aim of sending Contingent Troops,Tatmadaw’s active role in national reconciliation and peace process for the ethnic unity and its ardent cooperation in the international peacekeeping operations under the UN.

The Indian Ambassador delivered address. An instructor of CUNPK presented a power-point presentation of India’s participation in the UN peacekeeping operations. The Vice-Senior General and party posed for documentary photo together with distinguished guests,officer instructors of CUNPK and officer trainees. They also viewed the documentary photos.

The course that continues till 11 August is aimed at enabling officers of the Tatmadaw to study UN peacekeeping courses, sharing knowledge and holding discussions between the instructors and the trainees, and promoting cordial relations between the Tatmadaw and the Indian Armed Forces.
