Number of visitors to Sunye Lake located in Sunye Ingon village in Singaing Township, Kyaukse District set a record this year, said a local boatman who transports visitors in the lake.

Local people are engaged in fish farming tasks and capturing fish in the lake all the year round. The majority of local women are producing threads made of waterlily from the lake on a commercial scale.

At present, larger number of visitors to the lake contributes much to job opportunities for locals and their livelihoods.

“In the past, a few numbers of travellers paid visit to Sunye Lake. This year, visitor number set a record for their travelling to the lake. The visitors took boats to visit the water lily lake. Boatmen collect K3,000 per visitor for transportation.

‘‘At the water lily lake, the visitors took photo with Pathein umbrellas and flowers of water lily. Now, local authorities post a signboard not to pick out flowers of water lily as part of efforts to conserve the environment,” said a boatman.

Torrent water and water from Zawgyi Thintwe Dam flow into Sunye Lake. The lake is famous due to its Padonma water lily. At present, more than 200 people visit the lake daily.
