Defend the country, protect the people and partake in national development undertakings

The principal duty of the Tatmadaw is to defend the country, to protect the people and to partake in the national development undertakings. Four troop-building means are being applied for enhancing the qualifications of soldiers to shoulder the said duties well. In doing so, the subordinates must follow the just and logical directives under the correct leadership and fair and balanced administration. I would urge you all to make worthwhile endeavours throughout your service said, Commanderin- Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at his meeting with officers, other ranks and families of Pyinbongyi Station.

The Senior General and entourage arrived at the recruitment and resettlement unit of the station this morning. At the unit commander’s office, they heard a report on the production and distribution of quality crop seeds, quality strain pigs, layers and quality strain milk cows to support the manageable-scale agriculture and breeding undertakings, and the welfare of soldiers who failed the medical test. In his response, the Senior General gave instructions on ensuring success of works with the contribution of the labour of soldiers who failed the medical test alongside the systematic resettlement plans for them, extension of layer and milk cow farms not only for distribution to Tatmadawmen and families but also to Yangon and Bago, provision of agriculture and breeding courses for work efficiency, producing quality strains after checking the rate of yield and establishment of greenhouses for agriculture if necessary.

Next, the Senior General met with officers and other ranks and their families at the hall of Pyinbongyi Station. Also present were wife of the Senior General Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Joint Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) Commanderin- Chief (Air) General Khin Aung Myint, Commander-in- Chief (Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, senior officers from the office of Commander-in-Chief (Army) and the commanders of Yangon Command and Southern Command.

Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General said focus was on military build-up and combat skills so that Tatmadawmen can fully perform their defence duties. As for training, he explained upgrading of defence services training schools, their reformation, appointing of skilled course instructors, providing of modern teaching aids locally and internationally produced, drawing of new curriculums and syllabuses, extension of training areas. Regarding administration, the Senior General explained the better fulfilment of the needs in accommodation, meals, health and education.

With regard to education, the Senior General pointed out promotion of the education of soldiers who are weak in their education for various reasons. He said as education level is fundamental in building a standard army, efforts are being made to promote the education of the entire Tatmadaw as well as their families. Awards and scholarships are also being presented to outstanding ones while more libraries are being opened to improve their reading. He then urged the Tatmadawmen to motivate their children to pursue and promote their education.

As for the welfare of war veterans, the Senior General also explained providing of staff quarters, low-cost housing and homes for the aged to the families of fallen soldiers, those who became disabled in action, retired servicemen and those who were allowed to be out of service due to various reasons and conditions giving accommodation and creating jobs for servicemen who lost their limbs while in service at recruitment and resettlement units.

The Senior General presented Buddha images, books and publications to officers, other ranks and families of Pyinbongyi Station while Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the Senior General, gave cash for Station Maternal and Child Welfare Association through officials.

General Khin Aung Myint presented foodstuffs and Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Hsan Oo, sports gear to officers, other ranks and families. The Senior General and party cordially greeted officers, other ranks and families.

After inspecting the land plots for agriculture and livestock breeding tasks and construction of buildings at the Recruitment and Resettlement Unit, the Senior General instructed officials to focus on achieving success in agriculture and livestock breeding tasks with the use of modern technologies.

In the afternoon, the Senior General and party met officers, other ranks and families of local Light Infantry Division, regiments and units at Yan Nyein Aye Hall in Indaing Station.

At the meeting, the Senior General said he recognized the long-term military operation duty of the Light Infantry Division. In the warfare technology, those who combat  the enemy through military tactics and initiatives will secure victory. They should not be negligent because they may embrace victory as well as losses. They must review their tasks so as to secure greater achievements in the future. By taking systematic trainings, they need to effectively apply their experiences in the practical fields in line with the procedure of study, training and adherence. They have to take responsibility for safeguarding the public through brotherly spirit and family spirit while practising the Tatmadaw as one with the people. They must safeguard the lives of the people  similar to their families. The Tatmadawmen must participate in nationbuilding tasks and rescue and relief works in the natural disasters as much as they can. They should take out their tasks in line with the laws in the democratic era. It needs to cooperate with authorities in the armed ethnic issues in line with the adopted policy. The Senior General urged the Tatmadawmen to make strenuous efforts in State defence duty, safeguarding and rehabilitation tasks dutifully.

The Senior General presented books and publications on various subjects to officers, other ranks and families of Indaing Station while Daw Kyu Kyu Hla gave cash assistance to the Station MCWA.

After that, Admiral TinAung San also gave foodstuffs and Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Nyo Saw, sports equipment to them.The Senior General and party cordially greeted officers, other ranks  and families. (100)
